While it hasn’t been officially announced, the status of Eric Dungey looks in doubt for Saturday. What could this mean for the Syracuse football team?

A very strange and odd story has started to develop over the last several days with the Syracuse football team. While the team is trying to prepare for their second “skin” game of the season.

Their star quarterback appears to be in question for Saturday’s game. Lets put on the detective cap and channel our inner Sherlock Holmes to investigate.

So earlier this week the media typically gets to conversate with Eric Dungey, but alas he was made unavailable due to an undisclosed injury. When head coach Dino Babers was asked about the injury he deflected and has done so all week long.

“We’re not going to talk about injuries,” Babers said on the ACC coaches teleconference.

Another key to consider is that we won’t know the status of Dungey until game-day on Saturday. While the ACC has injury report mandates, that only exists between teams in their own conference.

So Syracuse won’t have to divulge any information that they don’t want too voluntarily.

While we did receive positive news on Wednesday from Syracuse dot com reporter, Brent Axe, who revealed that Dungey did in fact practice today.

While that is certainly positive news, if Dungey is unable to go the Orange would have to rely upon the services of a fan-favorite.

Junior quarterback Zack Mahoney would be the new quarterback under center. As many remember, Mahoney kept the Orange in close games last season against No. 1 Clemson and No. 8 LSU, and received a scholarship late this Fall.

Ultimately I think that this is all coach speak and Babers is playing the political war of forcing Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly to prepare for Zack Mahoney just in case.
