Swoopes makes big impact in Texas upset
Tyrone Swoopes might have lost his job as Texas' starting quarterback, but the Longhorns' coaching staff hasn't put him out to pasture.
Swoopes continued his success as a short-yardage, goal-line option in Texas' 24-17 upset of No. 10 Oklahoma.
In the first quarter of Saturday's stunner at the Cotton Bowl, Swoopes had to have the Sooners feeling as if they were being haunted by the ghost of Blake Bell in burnt orange. Swoopes ran three consecutive plays inside the 10-yard line. On the third, he looked like he was on his way to a touchdown, but had the ball knocked free just before he crossed the goal line.
The ball was recovered in the back corner of the end zone by Texas receiver Lorenzo Joe. The play had to be reviewed before the touchdown call made on the field was upheld for a 14-0 Texas lead.
Swoopes wasn't finished making an impact in the Longhorns' second win of the season. He re-entered the game early in the fourth quarter and connected with Caleb Bluiett for a 2-yard touchdown pass that put the Longhorns back up by 14 points, 24-10.
