Stoops says he won't put restrictions on where QB Hansen can transfer

Oklahoma's four-man quarterback derby was reduced to three on Wednesday. Redshirt freshman Justice Hansen apparently felt his time wasn't going to be now.

The quarterback from nearby Edmond, Okla., announced his intention to transfer, leaving shaky incumbent Trevor Knight and challengers Baker Mayfield and Cody Thomas to continue the battle when fall camp begins in August. Based on April's spring game, Hansen seemed to be fourth in the pecking order.

OU coach Bob Stoops issued a statement Wednesday night via The Oklahoman, and said he will not place any restrictions on where Hansen can transfer:

“We have met with Justice and certainly understand his desire to explore options that might provide him with more opportunity,” Stoops said. “He has our full support. He has been an outstanding team member and will make someone a good quarterback.”

A former four-star recruit, Hansen picked Oklahoma over offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Missouri and Texas A&M.

The Sooners will likely only have three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster for the 2015 season. They did not sign a quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class, but they do have a commitment from 2016 four-star recruit Austin Kendall out of North Carolina.
