South Carolina commitment tears ACL

South Carolina suffered a bit of bad news on the recruiting front, as commitment Tre Jackson tore his ACL this past Friday night.

The Scout.com 3-star recruit plays at both receiver and defensive back for University Lab High School in Baton Rouge. It appears as if he'll initially come to Columbia on the offensive side of the ball.

"I should be done and back 100-percent probably before I leave for college," Jackson told The Times-Picayune. "Everybody was hoping (for a return this season), but the injury, when you watch it, it's pretty gruesome, so I knew myself that it was over."

After talking with wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr., Jackson found out his scholarship offer would be honored by South Carolina. It put his mind at ease, but also motivates him to get healthy as quickly as possible.

"It's a very good feeling (to still have the scholarship). It gives me some extra motivation going into rehab. I'll be working every day just to get closer to being ready to go to college."

Interestingly enough, Jackson's father, Jack, committed to Steve Spurrier when the "Ol' Ball Coach" was at Florida in the early 1990's. The younger Jackson chose South Carolina over offers from Florida, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Mississippi State, North Carolina, and Utah, among others.
