QB Johnny McCrary set to transfer from program
It was announced Thursday by Vanderbilt that quarterback Johnny McCrary will transfer from the program.
A redshirt sophomore, the Georgia native will graduate this year -- opening the door for McCrary to be eligible right away for another program next season. Due to his class year, he will have two years of eligibility to work with.
After beginning 2015 as the starter, McCrary lost the job towards the latter half of the year to freshman Kyle Shurmur. He finished the '15 season with a poor touchdown-to-interception ratio of 6:12.
However, McCrary is dangerous as a dual-threat option. His accuracy must undoubtedly improve, but the tools are there for him to be a potent player.
Stemming from pure speculation, it wouldn't be surprised to see Penn State kick the proverbial tires on McCrary. He was recruited by -- and signed with -- former Vanderbilt and current PSU coach James Franklin.
Couple that with the fact Christian Hackenberg has left for the NFL, and there could be an opportunity for McCrary in Happy Valley.
