OU football was one of five teams to move up four positions in the current Associated Press Top 25 poll.

Oklahoma advanced four spots, from No. 16 a week ago to No. 12 in this week’s AP poll.

The Sooners were a beneficiary of having five teams ranked ahead of them lose over the weekend. Two of those teams were No. 8 Baylor and No. 10 West Virginia from the Big 12.

Oklahoma ran its overall record to 6-2 and a perfect 5-0 in the Big 12 with a dominant 56-3 takedown of the last-place Kansas Jayhawks (1-7, 0-5). The Sooners are again the highest ranked team in the conference, sitting just ahead of Baylor and West Virginia, who dropped to No. 13 and 14, respectively. OU, of course, began the season as the third-ranked team in the nation before losing two of its first three games in 2016.

In addition to the weekend losses by Baylor and West Virginia, Nebraska, Florida State and Boise State also went down, all but Florida State while playing on the road.

The Sooners also gained one spot, to No. 11, in ESPN’s Football Power Index. According to the FPI, Oklahoma’s chances of repeating as Big 12 champions this season are now at 60.3 percent, up from 44.7 percent a week ago, after recording its fifth consecutive conference win in 2016 without a loss.

The top six teams in this week’s AP poll remain unchanged from a week ago. Alabama, Michigan, Clemson and Washington rank one through four, all with 8-0 records. Louisville and Ohio State, which beat the Sooners 42-24 earlier this season in Norman, are 7-1 on the season and remain at No. 5 and 6, respectively.

Oklahoma State returned to the AP Top 25 this week after pulling the upset over previously unbeaten West Virginia over the weekend. The Cowboys are at No. 22.
