Could we soon see another wave of conference realignment? If it were up to Oklahoma President David L. Boren, the Big 12 would be leading the way. Boren, at the Oklahoma Board of Regents meeting Wednesday, mentioned that the league should “strive” to move from 10 teams to 12 teams in the near future. The conference, which has lost Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Texas A&M in recent years, currently needs two more teams in order to have a conference championship game in football.

In 2014, the first year of the four-team College Football Playoff, Baylor and TCU finished 5-6 in the standings after each played 12 games. Many believe that a 13th contest – a Big 12 title game – could have potentially lifted the victor into the inaugural playoff.

If the league looked to expand, where would it turn? Expect it to be discussed in the coming days.
