Ohio State Recruiting: Buckeyes Close in on No. 1 Alabama

Stars are aligning in the 2017 Ohio State recruiting class!
With five-star linebacker Baron Browning and four-star Pete Werner committing to Ohio State recently, the Buckeyes are right on the heels of the Crimson Tide for the top 2017 recruiting class. They are back up to 17 players committed as well. Alabama’s total score is 305.13 with 24 players in the class. Ohio State’s score is 300.82 with 7 fewer recruits.
From everything I have heard Urban Meyer probably won’t be able to take more than 21 players so Ohio State may not end up with the No. 1 class. Let’s look at the top five ranked Universities as well as a couple of others who could possibly have the top ranked class come signing day.
I will project their classes out by using their average score so far and see what their total would be if they have 25 recruits in their class compared to Ohio State’s 21. If any of you actually know how the recruiting numbers add up, please let me know.
Better yet, contact your favorite professional football team. You are obviously extremely intelligent with great math skills and they could probably use you to figure out the NFL salary cap situation. Anyway, here goes.
In the order they are ranked at the moment from one to five, Alabama would end up with a total score of 317. 84, Ohio State 371.6, Georgia 387.55, Oklahoma 307.44 and LSU 350. Two teams from outside the top five could have great recruiting classes as well. Auburn would be at 357.57, Florida State 428.15 and Clemson would be No. 1 at 432.02.

Urban Meyer may not end up with the highest ranked recruiting class come signing day but the Buckeyes will probably have the best one. Every player is either a four or five-star recruit and ranked among the top 300 high school players in the nation, except for one.
Blake Haubell is only a three star player and is way down the list. See, kickers are not highly regarded by recruiting analysts and Haubell is the perfect example of that. He is rated the No. 1 kicker in the nation.
If Ohio State maintains the average recruiting ranking of 95.72 it will be the highest since they have been keeping score. That will almost certainly be the case as every recruit Urban is targeting to fill out the class has a higher rating.
When everything is said and done, Ohio State probably won’t have the No. 1 recruiting class because of the lack of scholarships this year. But I’ll bet nearly every head coach would trade his class for Urban Meyer’s.
