Plenty of young talent at Ohio State.

Ohio State released the first depth chart of the season today. Most of the starters are who you would have expected, but it was interesting just how many freshmen were on it.

Most teams don’t worry as much about playing a team with nine redshirt freshmen and six true freshmen on the depth chart. But you should if you are facing an Ohio State team and they are Urban Meyer recruits.

Let’s take a look at the true freshmen beginning with Michael Jordan who has won the job at the left guard position. If I am correct, he will be the first Ohio State offensive lineman since Orlando Pace to start in his first game, and will only be the third Buckeye to have done so.

One true freshman who has impressed coaches and players alike since he arrived at Ohio State as an early enrollee is wide receiver Austin Mack. He is listed behind Noah Brown and Parris Campbell at the X position.

Another player on offense who has made quite an impression in his short time on campus is Binjimen Victor who is listed third at the Z wide receiver position. That would be surprising unless you have seen the 6-4 Victor’s YouTube highlights.

Nick Bosa and Jonathan Cooper are listed on the depth chart behind Sam Hubbard and Jaylin Holmes.  Bosa will almost certainly play at the tackle position as well.

Cooper will probably be used primarily in passing situations because he is lightning quick for a defensive end. I see both Bosa and Cooper playing, and barring injury they won’t be redshirted. Both players are so talented they won’t be at Ohio State for five years so Urban Meyer won’t lose a year from either one.

Jordan Fuller will back up Malik Hooker at one safety position. I wrote previously I thought he could make an impact his freshman season.

In high school he was extremely talented and played multiple positions. At 6-2, 205 pounds he has the body to play at the college level immediately.

Pretty impressive group of true freshmen. We will take a look at the redshirt freshmen in a future article. I will post an article by BUCKNUTS that has the full Ohio State depth chart on the Scarlet And Game Facebook page.
