Odom had input in Mizzou not playing in bowl game
Due to the addition of more bowl games in the 2015 slate, multiple teams with losing records were given the opportunity to participate in some of these contests.
Missouri was essentially given the choice of playing in a bowl game. However, the university made the decision to not feature. Gary Pinkel opted instead to finish his career after the loss to Arkansas, and ride off into the distance (also known as the broadcasting booth).
Interestingly enough, newly-appointed head coach Barry Odom did have a hand in the decision to not play in a bowl game.
Why could this be the case?
For one, Odom likely wanted to place much of his attention on filling out his staff (which he has). Interestingly enough, there aren't a ton of holdovers from Pinkel's previous regime. Secondly, Mizzou needs to go full bore into recruiting for the 2016 class.
As it currently stands, Missouri has only 12 public commitments -- with Texas prospect Marvin Terry being the lone pledge since Odom has taken over.
It will be fascinating to see how this class ultimately shakes out come February.
