OC Heupel becomes highest-paid assistant in Mizzou history
New Missouri offensive coordinator Josh Heupel will be coming into Columbia with considerable hype.
The former Oklahoma star quarterback is slated to make $700,000 this upcoming season. Via The Kansas City Star, this will make Heupel one of the nation's top 30 highest-paid assistant coaches. He will also be the highest-paid assistant in Missouri history.
In general, the vast majority of the assistant coaches on Barry Odom's staff have all received higher salaries compared to their predecessors. Odom's salary this year ($2.35 million) is substantially less than the salary Gary Pinkel earned ($4.02 million) in 2015.
Heupel will have some pressure on him to revive a struggling Tigers' offense. The group in general was beset by both inconsistency and injury.
During his time in Oklahoma, Heupel was multiple in regards to his offensive play-calling. He engineered offenses with both pass-heavy and run-oriented schemes. At Mizzou, he'll have to assess his talent -- and tailor the scheme around the strengths of the players made available to his disposal.
