No resolution in sight: Gators to play both QBs in the opener

For anyone holding out hope that a quarterback would emerge before the Sept. 5 opener against New Mexico State, no need to continue with those thoughts as Jim McElwain says both will play against the Aggies.

With no separation between redshirt freshman Will Grier and sophomore Treon Harris, their head coach will let their game results determine the team's starter. The Gators shouldn't be tested by New Mexico State but their competition ramps up significantly in the second game as East Carolina, fresh off an 8-5 season, travels to Gainesville.

It's important the team finds a starter for the first road trip at Kentucky in week three, if not, the Wildcats could finally end their 28-year drought against Florida. Losing to the Wildcats certainly wouldn't be the ideal start to McElwain's SEC head coaching record, but if he can't determine a leader before then, the loss may be the first of many in league play this season.
