Near Misses Hurt Fantasy Points In Week 2

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

There were some good perfornances by players but they didn’t produce a lot of fantasy points.

Although the second week of college football did not have all of the big time matchups week one did, it did not lack for excitement. To go along with the excitement and upsets week two brought us, it also brought some big performances. However, some of those performances were a little shy of producing significant fantasy points.

J.T. Barrett did not have the week I anticipated as the Ohio State defense did most of the scoring. Barrett only threw 22 times, completing 14 of those passes for 149 yards. Josh Rosen had a slightly better game although nothing off the charts.

The offensive struggles for Ohio State carried into the backfield as well for recomended running backs Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel. Although Weber found the endzone for the first time in his career he fell 8 yards short of reaching his 100 yard bonus.

Samuel on the other hand, added plenty of all purpose yards. He rushed for 78 yards and had 62 yards receiving which is good from a team standpoint, but not from a fantasy standpoint. Samuel didn’t reach 100 yards in either catagory and didn’t find the end zone one time.

Rosen threw for 298 yards which is slightly frustrating knowing two more yards and he would have gotten the 300 yard bonus points. Rosen did however find the end zone once through the air and once on the ground, good for 20.62 fantasy points.

Early on in the Michigan game I thought Jehu Chesson was going to have a big game. Chesson had 3 receptions for 78 yards but wasn’t much of a factor after that, only grabbing one more pass for a total of 84 yards on the day and no scores.

River Cracraft was also not much of a factor in WSU’s loss to Boise State. Cracraft caught 5 passes for a mere 31 yards. I will likely be on him again this week however as I can’t ignore the Cougars air rade offense and Cracraft’s low salary.

Travis Rudolph had by far the biggest day of any of the mentioned receivers.Catching 7 passes for 105 yards, two of which were touchdowns. He totalled a score of 32.5 points on FanPicks.

Jordan Westerkamp, who was mentioned in “Other Options” also had a good day, catching 4 passes for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns as well.
