Louisville Football: What Are The Chances Jackson Wins Heisman in 2017?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

We take a look at the chances of Louisville football player Lamar Jackson winning the Heisman Trophy for the second year in a row in 2017.

It is probably the furthest thing from Lamar Jackson’s mind right now, but what are his chances of repeating as the Heisman Trophy winner next season? The Louisville football quarterback would join Archie Griffin as the only back-to-back winners ever.

However, things are going to be much more difficult the second time around for Lamar Jackson as the entire nation will be looking for him to fall.

Each week, the stage will get brighter and the target on his back will get that much bigger.

Take a look at the video at the top of this post by 120 Sports talking about Jackson’s Heisman chances next season:

While I do agree that Jackson will have a hard time impressing people next season because of what he has already done, I still believe that he is the favorite going into 2017.

A couple of reasons why include his ceiling as a dual-threat quarterback and Louisville’s 2017 schedule.

I don’t think the national media understands how far Jackson has come after his freshman year. The difference is night and day, but the scary thing is that he still has a ton of room to improve as a passer.

If Jackson wants to impress the voters in 2017, he needs to become a better passer and take Louisville to a place it’s never been; the ACC Championship and the College Football Playoff.

Secondly, it’s not like Jackson will be going up against a ton of premier defenses next season, which will give him a ton of chances to pad his stats.

Here are the Cardinals home and away opponents, according to FBSchedules.com:

HOME: Boston College, Clemson, Syracuse, Virginia, Kent State, and Murray State

AWAY: Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Kentucky, and Purdue (Neutral Site)

I don’t know about how you guys feel about this schedule, but I feel like Jackson can still put up around 51 touchdowns and a ton of total yards in 2017.

If he can put up the same amount of touchdowns and take the Cardinals to the ACC Championship game, then I would be confident in Jackson’s chances of becoming the second player to ever win back-to-back Heisman Trophies.
