Injured KU quarterback unlikely to get sixth year of eligibility

Published Oct. 21, 2015 10:19 a.m. ET

Kansas quarterback Michael Cummings suffered a torn ACL in the spring game, and he was already on his fifth year of eligibility.

Unfortunately for Cummings, despite missing all of 2015, he is unlikely to be granted a six year.

“I don't think we're going to be able to get that sixth year,” David Beaty said. “We don't know for sure, but it's not looking good right now. We haven't heard back, but it's not looking good.”

Cummings redshirted all the way back in 2011 under Turner Gill.

“I just kind of felt bad for him that he didn't get his opportunity this year,” Beaty said. “Man, it just broke my heart. But just watching how he's handled himself has been really kind of inspiring, for a young man to be able to be that mature.”
