Rice University has launched an investigation after it emerged that four of its football players were arrested in the past week, the Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

Harris County court records show reserve defensive end Cody Bauer, a junior from Pottsboro, and offensive lineman Cade Shaw, a sophomore from Calallen, were arrested Saturday for possession of a firearm in their on-campus residence.

A separate incident saw cornerbacks Kevin Gaddis and Phillip Gaines both arrested Monday.

Gaddis, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., was charged with theft of property valued between $50 and $500, and possession of two ounces or less of marijuana.

Gaines, a sophomore from Converse Judson, was arrested on a misdemeanor — possession of two ounces or less of marijuana.

All four players were released after posting bail.

"We are aware of the allegations. We take these seriously," Rice athletic director Rick Greenspan said.

"Obviously, we have some investigations to do, both with the campus and off-campus (authorities), and when we have more information we'll share it."

Rice University is a private institution which is represented by the Rice Owls in NCAA Division I college football.
