Highly touted CB Humphrey set to earn starting role for Alabama

Former five-star recruit and Hoover, Ala., star prospect Marlon Humphrey looks to have finally made his move into the stacked Alabama depth chart, as the cornerback is slotted in with Cyrus Jones as a first-team corner.
Humphrey came to Alabama in 2013 and was rated among the top 10 players in the country as a senior at Hoover. Many expected him to contribute immediately for Alabama last season, but after failing to appear eight games into the schedule, the decision to redshirt the cornerback was made.
"I just always think your freshman year is a tough year," Humphrey's high school coach, Josh Niblett, told AL.com. "I think it's a tough year mentally. I think it's a tough year physically. It's taxing on you. I think the more you get adjusted to what's going on after your first year, of course you're going to be a little bit more in tune to what's going on and also being able to understand the culture, being able to understand everything that's expected of you day in and day out. It's totally different than high school, of course.
"But I've always seen Marlon as being a hard worker, and I know he's working hard there, and I know he's excited. We've texted back and forth. I know he's excited with an opportunity, and he'll make the most of it."
Now entering the season with more than just expectations, Humphrey should play a major factor for a defense expected to be one of the best in the nation. If he lives up to his billing, good luck throwing on Alabama this season.
