Harbaugh praises Gardner at Michigan QB club banquet

Before he goes off to try to make the team of one accomplished NFL coach, Devin Gardner was the recipient of kind words from another.
"I've gotten the chance to know (Gardner) over the past four months," new Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh told those in attendance at the Ufer Quarterback Club Banquet, per MLive.com. "And what people say behind his back, behind closed doors, is really what speaks volumes to me. He's a high character guy. A great teammate. And he'll be a great representative for the University of Michigan."
Harbaugh, like Gardner now, is a former Michigan quarterback. Gardner might have benefited from playing for a coach with a great reputation for developing players at that position, but he will not get that chance. Instead, Gardner is headed to New England after signing a free-agent deal with the Patriots. Of course, playing for the defending Super Bowl champions should provide plenty of consolation, particularly considering the franchise's history in working with Michigan quarterbacks who were not high draft picks.
