Gators fall to No. 23 in AP Poll, No. 21 in Coaches Poll

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Somehow the Florida Gators are still in the Top 25 after their embarrassing 21-point collapse at the hands of Tennessee on Saturday.

In the AP Poll, the Gators fell to No. 23, but only dropped three spots to 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Tennessee on the other hand climbed up to No. 11 in both polls, after being 14 in AP and 12 in the coaches poll before the win over the Gators.

Now this was only the first loss of the season for the Gators, but it was their first SEC East loss which hurts because Tennessee now has the tie breaker over Florida if the two teams tie at the end of the season. However, the Volunteers still have to travel Athens this week to face Georgia and then go to Texas A&M the following week.

So, by no means are the Gators out of the running for the SEC East title, but they can’t afford anymore SEC losses. And that next chance to get avoid another conference loss comes this Saturday when they take on Vanderbilt in Nashville. Florida has only lost to Vanderbilt ONCE in the last 27 years.

Kickoff is set for 12 P.M. ET on Saturday from Vanderbilt Stadium.
