The South Carolina Gamecocks received some disappointing news Tuesday, as four-star cornerback Octavis Johnson informed the team of his plans to enroll in prep school and will not be a member of the football team this fall, according to 247 Sports.
Johnson plans on returning to the Gamecocks, pending he makes the grades to become eligible, in January as a member of the 2016 recruiting class.
The Homerville, GA prospect was rated as the 19th best athlete in the nation and picked South Carolina over Georgia last signing day. Johnson was expected to come in and compete at cornerback this fall and help provide depth for a team currently short on playmaking defensive backs.
