FWAA defends decision to leave Henry off its All-American team
One position - and one name if you looked as a Razorback fan - was notably absent from the 2015 FWAA All-American Team, there was no tight end. Considering Arkansas tight end Hunter Henry had a near-consensus All-American season, fans are left wondering why he was left off the list.
Instead of adding a tight end, the FWAA had three runnings backs on the list - Dalvin Cook of Florida State, Derrick Henry of Alabama and Leonard Fournette of LSU - one more than in previous years.
According to Whole Hog Sports, the FWAA stands by its decision, although it certainly was not an easy one.
“We had a rigorous discussion on whether to include a tight end this season,” Lee Barfknecht, the 2015 FWAA President said. “The consensus on the committee was to honor three running backs instead.”
“It comes down to our all-America committee’s decision on which players to include. There is no bias. Our analysis is cold-blooded. We pick a team based on performance in the 2015 season.”
Henry ended up making four of the five All-American teams used by the NCAA to determine consensus teams after leading the nation's tight ends in receiving yards while also serving as a valuable run blocker in the Razorback offense.
