Alabama leads the series with Texas A&M by a 6-2 margin, dating back to the first meeting in the 1942 Cotton Bowl. The Aggies won the next contest in the 1968 Cotton Bowl, 20-16, to even the series. Alabama swept a pair of matchups in the 1980s, winning 23-10 in Birmingham in 1985 and 30-10 in College Station in 1988. In the first SEC meeting between the teams in 2012, Texas A&M defeated the Tide, 29-24, in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has since won the last three matchups, 49-42 in College Station in 2013 59-0 in Tuscaloosa in 2014, the largest win over a ranked opponent in Alabama history and 41-23 in College Station in 2015.

The Aggies enter Saturday’s game with a 6-0 overall record, including a 4-0 mark in SEC play following an off week on Oct. 15. In their last outing, the Aggies defeated then-No. 9/9 Tennessee, 45-38 in overtime in College Station on Oct. 8. Texas A&M opened the season with non-conference wins over No. 16/24 UCLA (31-24 in overtime) and Prairie View A&M (67-0) before embarking on four weeks of SEC play. A&M defeated Auburn, 29-16, on Sept. 17, No. 16/18 Arkansas, 45-24, on Sept. 24 and South Carolina, 24-13, on Oct. 1 before the win over Tennessee. The Aggies are led by head coach Kevin Sumlin, who owns a 42-16 mark in his fi fth season in College Station and a 77-33 career record between Houston and Texas A&M.
