Could Oregon State QB Seth Collins play WR in the Civil War?
True freshman QB Seth Collins returned to the field on Monday for the Beavers as the team prepares to play Oregon on Friday.
Collins was ruled out for the rest of the season earlier this year by head coach Gary Andersen after suffering a hyperextended knee injury before Halloween. However, after two weeks of rehab it looks like Collins could be ready to return, as a wide receiver.
"Some things that seem impossible a week ago may not be as far away as you think," Andersen said, per The Oregonian. " ... It's a work-in-progress at this point, but when that injury report does come out, I'm hopeful that there's a couple young men that I believed -- and we all kind of believed -- were potentially out for the season ... have made tremendous progress."
Collins had throw for 891 yards and six touchdowns in seven games this season, but had been most effective on the ground. Collins is still the Beavers leading rusher with 541 yards and five touchdowns this season despite missing the past four games.
"Seth, when he was out there, was obviously a playmaker," Andersen said. "... His ability to come back, and if if he can help us, would be fantastic wherever it can be. But he also has to be able to handle it and get the practice reps, and (we'll) make sure we do what we can and make sure the legs are underneath him and he's in good enough shape. The docs will watch him close. If we have an opportunity to use him where we think it's the best thing for the offense, then we absolutely will.
"We all know Seth good enough to know that Seth thinks he's indestructible. He'll run out there and play 100 snaps at any position. He'd play free safety if we asked him to do it. He's a competitive young man."
