Albany, Stony Brook to battle for trophy

(STATS) - Albany and Stony Brook have added some hardware to their New York in-state rivalry.

The two CAA programs announced Monday that the third annual "Empire Clash" will take on new meaning this year as they introduce the Battle for the Golden Apple. The winner of the annual showdown will take home the Golden Apple trophy.

Saturday's season-ending game for both team will be played at Stony Brook. Albany holds a 10-6 overall series lead.

Beginning next fall, the two schools will expand the rivalry series to include results from matchups across all sports, awarding points based upon head-to-head competition.
