Wofford's big start wallops Furman, 70-50

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Karl Cochran pumped in 23 points and Wofford used a big first half to dispatch visiting Furman Thursday night, 70-50.

The Terriers, who shot an even 50 percent from the field (26 of 52), held Furman to 17 first-half points and took a 19-point lead into intermission. The Wofford defense limited the Paladins to 39.5 percent shooting (17 of 43) while pouncing on 15 turnovers and collecting 10 steals. Wofford outrebounded Furman 35-28 and limited the Paladins to just eight offensive rebounds.

Lee Skinner pulled down a dozen rebounds to lead Wofford (16-10, 10-3 Southern), which maintained its spot in a second-place tie in the Southern Conference standings with Chattanooga, both two games behind conference-leading Davidson.

Keith Belfield scored 14 points and Stephen Croone added another 13 to lead Furman (8-18, 2-11), with Kendrec Ferrara adding 10 points.
