Wofford holds off Appalachian St for 64-58 victory

BOONE, N.C. (AP) Lee Skinner scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Wofford held off Appalachian State 64-58 in a game that featured 14 ties and nine lead changes on Saturday.
John Swinton hit a 3-pointer with 11:52 remaining to give Wofford (15-10, 9-3 Southern Conference) a 42-20 lead it wouldn't relinquish, but the Mountaineers wouldn't go away.
Eric Garcia hit 1 of 2 free throws about 7 1/2 minutes later to open up an eight-point Terriers lead before a 7-1 Appalachian State (8-17, 4-8) run, capped by a Tab Hamilton 3, pulled the Mountaineers within two, 58-56 with 2 minutes to play.
Skinner made a layup to push the lead back to four and Hamilton answered with a layup of his own to make it 60-58 with 1:08 to remaining. Spencer Collins hit a jumper 31 seconds later and, after a Wofford stop, hit two free throws to seal the win.
