Washington is doing some sightseeing before playing for the second time this week in New York.
Mike Krzyzewski's second trip to New York this week will probably be all about business for his Duke team.
No Pac-12 team has beaten a ranked team all season, and the Huskies will be at the "World's Most Famous Arena" for the second time in five days when they meet the No. 7 Blue Devils on Saturday.
Washington (4-3) is playing for the fourth time at Madison Square Garden after falling 79-77 to No. 11 Marquette in the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday night. The loss, however, didn't dampen one of the more memorable trips in the history of the program.
"We went to the 9-11 Memorial the first day we were here and I think our guys enjoyed that," said coach Lorenzo Romar, who is one win shy of 200 with Washington for his career. "We played a game in Madison Square Garden tonight and I think they enjoyed that, although we would have loved to win."
Romar took the Huskies to the Broadway show 'Memphis' and the team also met actor Jim Caviezel, a Washington native.
"We are definitely trying to maximize the trip we end with Duke on Saturday," he said.
Duke (8-1) is far more used to playing in the Garden, going 25-15 all-time after winning 12 of its last 14.
Krzyzewski is back in New York after he was honored along with Tennessee women's coach Pat Summitt on Tuesday night as Sports Illustrated's sportsman and sportswoman of the year.
The Hall of Fame coach returned to Durham to lead his team to an 87-64 victory over Colorado State on Wednesday. It was the Blue Devils' first game since an 85-63 loss to No. 2 Ohio State on Nov. 29.
"We're still very much a developing team," Krzyzewski said. "We've got a very difficult schedule that'll continue through Washington. That's how you learn about yourself. We have to keep adjusting."
Krzyzewski has praised Washington's athleticism in the buildup to this game. The Huskies' starting backcourt consists of 6-foot-5 C.J. Wilcox and 6-3 Abdul Gaddy, although 6-5 freshman reserve Tony Wroten is third on the team with his 13.0 scoring average.
Duke's top scorer is freshman Austin Rivers, who made a season-high three 3-pointers on Wednesday and believes the Blue Devils have improved since losing to the Buckeyes.
"I don't think people realize how big practice can be for a team," Rivers said. "Sometimes when you just go a long period of time without practice, you start to forget the fundamentals and the values that makes your team great. I'm not saying we did that, but I think practice reiterated them with our team."
The extra days in New York should benefit Washington as it prepares for the noon start that's a 9 a.m. tip-off back home.
Pac-12 teams are 0-9 against AP Top 25 opponents this season. Duke is 3-1 against Washington, winning 74-64 in the last meeting in 1989.
