Richie Gordon scored 23 points and Western Carolina romped to a 97-47 victory over visiting Warren Wilson in its home opener Monday night.

Preston Ross added 12 for the Catamounts (2-2).

Rashad Ali led Warren Wilson with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but the Owls were overmatched in every way possible - in shooting percentages, on the boards, and in turnover opportunities. After winning three in a row, the Owls (3-5) have lost four straight.

While the Catamounts were making 40 of 74 shots from the field (54.1 percent), the Owls made only a third of their tries (19 of 57, for 33 percent). They committed 22 turnovers to Western Carolina's seven and got beaten in the rebounding battle 51-32.

The Owls did one thing no other team managed against Western Carolina: They held Mike Williams out of double-figure scoring. He had only nine points, but played only 17 minutes.
