W. Carolina 78, Elon 76

Trey Sumler scored 22 points and made four free throws late in overtime as Western Carolina edged Elon 78-76 Saturday.
Sumler had seven assists, but his free throw shooting proved decisive for Western Carolina (12-17, 6-10 Southern Conference).
Elon (13-14, 8-8) led 35-31 at halftime behind the shooting of Jack Isenbarger (22 points). Elon tied it 52-all, then broke a 59-59 tie on Keaton Cole's trey with 2:38 left in regulation. But the Catamounts went scoreless until OT. Drew Spradlin's foul shot and jumper at 0:15 tied it 62-all and forced overtime.
In OT, Isenbarger's trey and layup put Elon up 69-66. Another 3-pointer gave Elon its last lead, 74-72. Western Carolina's last points came on six foul shots in the final 71 seconds. Sumler drained the final four, the last at 0:08 for a 78-75 lead. Spradlin was fouled with 0:01 left but missed two of three shots.
