VMI outlasts Charleston Southern 92-84

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) D.J. Covington scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading VMI to a 92-84 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday.

VMI (14-9, 7-3 Big South) used a 20-3 run in the first half, sparked by three consecutive 3-pointers from Brian Brown, to open a 45-31 lead. Charleston Southern (10-13, 4-6) couldn't cut the deficit to fewer than eight points the rest of the way and the Keydets led by double digits for most of the second half.

VMI shot 48 percent from the field, including 11 of 22 from long range. QJ Peterson scored 22 while Rodney Glasgow had 18 points and seven assists. Brown had 14 points and Trey Chapman added 10.

Saah Nimley had 17 points for the Buccaneers and Malcolm Bernard had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Cedrick Bowen had 13 while Arlon Harper and Paul Gombwer each had 10. Gombwer also grabbed 11 rebounds.
