Evan Fjeld scored 23 points and Vermont handed Quinnipiac its first loss of the season on Saturday, 79-75.
Vermont led 32-26 at halftime and built a 70-60 lead with less than six minutes to play. Quinnipiac went on a 17-6 run to cut the lead to 77-76 on a 3-pointer by Dominique Langston with 22 seconds remaining. Joey Accaoui, who had 16 points for Vermont, sealed the victory with two free throws with 12 seconds to go.
Matt Glass added 11 points for the Catamounts (2-1), who made 28 of 51 field goal attempts (54.9 percent). Fjeld had a hot hand, making 10 of 13 field goal attempts.
Justin Rutty led Quinnipiac (2-1) with 19 points, James Johnson added 18, Langston had 14 and Deontay Twyman had 13. The Bobcats held a 45-37 rebounding edge.
