It took a four career performances for Utah Valley to pull out a four-overtime victory on Thursday.
Isiah Williams (30 points), Jordan Swarbrick (24) and Ben Aird (23) all had career-best scoring outputs while Geddes Robinson pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds as the Wolverines won a 107-96 quadruple-overtime game over North Dakota.
''I don't think I've ever been involved in a game like this. This was one for the ages,'' Utah Valley coach Dick Hunsaker said. ''A game like that makes you humble.''
The Wolverines (10-8, 2-0 Great West) hit game-tying baskets at the close of three different periods to outlast the Fighting Sioux (8-10, 1-1).
Utah Valley got a basket from Holton Hunsaker with 6 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 56-56; a pair of free throws from Swarbrick with 48 seconds remaining in the second overtime to tie it at 71-71; and 1 of 2 free throws from Swarbrick with 3 seconds left in the third overtime to make it 91-91.
In the final overtime period, Utah Valley hit 10 free throws while outscoring North Dakota 16-5.
Hunsaker's 15-foot jumper at the end of regulation capped an 11-point comeback in the final 5 minutes for Utah Valley. It was his first basket of the game. Hunsaker finished with 13 points.
In the first overtime, the Wolverines led by two with 3 seconds left before North Dakota's Brandon Brekke scored a layup off an offensive rebound to send it into double overtime tied at 64-64.
In the second OT, Swarbrick hit four free throws, including two with 48 seconds remaining to extend the game again. Swarbrick scored 20 of his 24 points in the overtime sessions and was 15 for 17 at the free-throw line. He came into the game ranked 20th in the nation in free-throw shooting.
The Fighting Sioux looked like they had put the game out of reach in the third overtime, building a seven-point lead with 37 seconds remaining. But North Dakota called a timeout it didn't have with 3.6 seconds left, and Swarbrick hit 1 of 2 free throws to extend the game again. In the final 28.2 seconds of the third overtime, Swarbrick had six points and Williams five.
''What a great effort. What a great game,'' Hunsaker said. ''We have a team of character because you can't win a game like this without character guys.''
Aaron Anderson had 19 points and Troy Huff 16 for North Dakota. Patrick Mitchell added 13, Jamal Webb and Brekke 12 each, and Josh Schuler 11.
The Wolverines shot 43 percent from the field, while the Fighting Sioux hit 38 percent. But the difference came at the foul line, where Utah Valley hit 35 of 44 shots and North Dakota was 32 of 54.
It was the longest game ever played at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, and the second quadruple-overtime game in Utah Valley's NCAA history. The other came on Jan. 29, 2009 - a 123-121 win at Chicago State.
