USF breaks 4-game skid, beats Portland 89-77

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Kruize Pinkins threw down a dunk - and earned a technical foul - with 17 seconds to go as University of San Francisco held on to defeat Portland 89-77 on Saturday, breaking a four-game skid.
Portland closed with a spurt of six straight field goals - including two 3-pointers by D'Marques Tyson inside the final minute - as the Pilots mounted a late rally.
Devin Watson scored 21 points for the Dons (8-10, 2-4 WCC), including 12 of 14 at the line, Pinkins added 18 with four 3-pointers. Mark Tollefsen and Tim Derksen scored 15 each. Derksen added five assists, Tollefson nailed three 3s.
San Francisco took advantage of a Portland scoring drought to fashion an 11-0 run spanning nearly three minutes, grabbing a 51-38 lead, with about 16 minutes to play. The Dons made eight steals and forced 12 turnovers.
Portland (11-6, 2-3) was led by Kevin Bailey's 20 points.
