Lauren Haeger has compiled quite the resume during her time with the Florida Gators softball team. She’s been the team’s go-to slugger, helped lead it to its first two NCAA championships the last two years, and now she has one more accolade to add to the mantle.

Haeger has been awarded the Honda Sports Award, given to the nation’s best female athlete in the sport. The award is given out based on balloting from every NCAA school as a part of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program.

The senior, who was also named the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year, is just the second Gator to win the Honda Sports Award — Kelsey Bruder won in 2011.

She’s the Babe Ruth of softball — literally. Haeger and the Sulton of Swat are the only players in NCAA Softball, NCAA baseball, or Major League Baseball history to smash more than 70 home runs and win more than 70 games as a pitcher. Haeger’s career pitching record is 73-12 to go along with her 71 home runs.
