UNC-Wilmington gets by Northeastern 55-45

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) Craig Ponder scored 11 points and Dylan Sherwood added 10 as North Carolina-Wilmington pulled away from Northeastern for a 55-45 win Thursday night.

Sherwood sparked a late run for UNC-Wilmington (8-19, 2-10 Colonial Athletic Association), hitting a pair of free throws to put the Seahawks up 44-41, before connecting on a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 47-41. The Seahawks trailed 41-40 with 5:42 left, but closed the game on a 15-4 run.

UNC-Wilmington was 7 of 10 from the free-throw line over the final 1:07 to preserve the win.

Northeastern (8-18, 5-7) made just one field goal in the last 5 minutes of the game.

David Walker led the Huskies with 18 points. Scott Eatherton had 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Huskies, posting his 16th double-double of the season.

The Seahawks have now won two consecutive games after snapping a 14-game losing streak.
