UConn center Amida Brimah has surgery scheduled to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for up to five months.

The school says the 7-foot freshman from Ghana will undergo arthroscopic surgery Friday morning at the UConn Health Center in Farmington.

School spokesman Phil Chardis could not say when the injury occurred but said it has been an ongoing condition that bothered Brimah at times throughout his freshman season.

Brimah played in all 40 games for the national champion Huskies, averaging just over four points and three rebounds. He also blocked 92 shots.
