Orlando Johnson scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Tuesday night and UC Santa Barbara defeated Portland 83-69 Tuesday night for its fourth straight win to open the season.
Jaime Serna also had a double-double for the Gauchos, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. James Nunnally scored 22 for UCSB.
The Gauchos trailed 35-31 at halftime but scored 52 points in the second half, hitting 55 percent from the field after the break. The Gauchos missed all eight of their 3-point tries in the first half, but went 7 for 12 behind the arc after halftime to finish at 35 percent from long range.
Ryan Nicholas led the Pilots (2-3) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Nemanja Mitrovic and Tanner Riley each scored 12 points for Portland.
