Jordan Callahan and Johnny Mayhane each scored 18 points and Tulane defeated Rice 79-74 in overtime Wednesday night.
Mayhane scored eight of his points in the extra period to help the Green Wave (7-14, 2-6 Conference USA) end a four-game losing streak.
Arsalan Kazemi led the Owls (7-14, 1-7) with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Tulane's Kendall Timmons hit a jumper with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 61, and the game went into overtime after Rice missed two shots.
The Green Wave scored the first six points of overtime and held off the Owls from there.
Rice went into halftime up 37-28 and led by as many as 13 in the second half before Tulane rallied by slowly chipping away at the lead. The Green Wave tied the score at 52 on Kris Richard's jumper with 6:20 left and neither team led by more than four the remainder of regulation.
