Toolson's 22 leads Utah Valley in 96-71 win over Westminster

OREM, Utah (AP) — Jake Toolson scored 22 points with four 3-pointers, four other Utah Valley players scored in double figures and the Wolverines beat Division II Westminster (Utah) 96-71 in their season opener for their 15th straight home win Tuesday night.

Conner Toolson scored 14 points, Benjamin Nakwaasah added 12 and Isaiah White had 10 with five assists for Utah Valley, which had 25 assists in shooting 34 of 65 from the field (52 percent) and 11 of 22 from long distance.

The Griffins led 11-5 on Jake Connor's 3, but the Wolverines pulled ahead on a 17-0 run capped by Jake Toolson's 3 for a 24-11 lead, and they were up 42-27 at halftime.

The Wolverines outscored the Griffins 40-26 in the paint and led by as many as 30 points in the second half.

Connor and Travis Devashravee scored 12 points apiece and Jai Jai Ely and Joonas Tahvainainen added 10 each for the Griffins.
