Three Rivers coach Gene Bess 1st to reach 1,200 wins

Gene Bess became the first college basketball coach to reach 1,200 victories, directing Three Rivers Community College to a 91-51 victory over State Fair on Thursday night.
The 79-year-old Bess is 1,200-349 in 45 seasons at the Poplar Bluff school.
Bess led the Raiders to national junior college championships in 1979 and 1992. He coached longtime NBA star Latrell Sprewell in the early 1990s.
