The lights went out in the middle of the USC-Oregon basketball game


With minutes left in the first half of the always-massive matchup between USC and Oregon that was even more massive considering the Ducks could claim sole possession of the conference title with a win, this happened.

A USC spokesman said a city electrical grid went down Saturday and caused a power surge that knocked out the arena lights. According to the Pac 12 broadcast, this has happened at least one other time:

The crowd at the Galen center had the natural, Pavlovian response to the outtage, which was to whip out their cellphones and attempt to light the court that way.

It was the perfect setting for someone to pull out an acoustic guitar and go to center court to knock out a stripped down version of "We Are The World" or something, but it wasn't anywhere near enough lighting to play under.

The lights came on after 20 minutes and play resumed.
