Texas State defeats Lamar 65-55

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) Emani Gant had 14 points, 13 rebounds and four steals to lead Texas State to a 65-55 win over Lamar on Wednesday.

JaMarcus Weatherspoon tallied 19 points, on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, and had four rebounds, and Wesley Davis hit three 3-pointers on his way to 15 points for Texas State (2-0). The Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field, compared to the Cardinals' 40 percent.

Tyran de Lattibeaudiere had 14 points, eight steals, five rebounds and three assists for Lamar (1-2). Marcus Owens finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers and had four rebounds, and Preston Mattingly chipped in eight points for the Cardinals.

Down 30-17 at halftime, Owens made back-to-back 3-pointers as Lamar went on a 14-5 run to bring the Cardinals within four. Texas State responded with a 19-8 run, led by 11 points from Weatherspoon.
