Brooks Ybarra and Matt Staff scored 13 points each and Texas State held on to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 74-72 Sunday night.
Vonn Jones made a pair of free throws with 1:36 left to break a 67-67 tie and put the Bobcats (4-2) ahead to stay against their NAIA rivals. Reid Koenen had 11 points for Texas State and Staff had a team-high eight rebounds.
Jonathan Freemyer led the Rangers with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Daryl Glover had 14 points and Marshall Bell scored 13 for Northwestern Oklahoma State, which led 33-30 at halftime and led by as many as 14 points in the first half.
