Dexter Ellington scored 17 points and Texas Southern beat Alcorn State 87-52 Tuesday night in the Southwestern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Lawrence Johnson-Danner scored 13 and Omar Strong had 12, all on 3-pointers, for Texas Southern (2-11). The Tigers were 10 of 19 from 3-point range, led by Strong who was 4 for 5. Texas Southern led 43-21 at halftime.
Twann Oakley scored 14 points and Kendrick McDonald added 13 to lead the Braves (3-10). All three of Alcorn State's wins have come at home.
