Omar Strong hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points to pace Texas Southern's 69-59 victory over Alabama A&M on Monday night.

Madarious Gibbs added 14 points and five steals for the Tigers (12-16, 11-5), who won for the fifth time in six games and moved into a tie for second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Dexter Ellington scored 12 points, while Daniel King had team highs of seven rebounds and three assists.

Jeremy Crutcher's 13 points and Justin Banks' eight rebounds paced the Bulldogs (6-19, 4-12), who have dropped six of seven.

The Bulldogs' Brandon Ellis tied the game at 32 with 12:45 to play. But Texas Southern countered with a 7-0 run in which Gibbs' two layups sandwiched Strong's 3-pointer. That gave the Tigers control at 39-32.

Texas Southern, which is now 9-1 at home, swept the season series.

Alabama A&M fell to 1-15 on the road.
