Patrick Miller scored 14 points and handed out eight assists as Tennessee State defeated South Alabama 68-57 in a nonconference game Monday.

Miller, who also had four steals, scored 12 points in the second half when the Tigers (1-3) righted themselves after surrendering a 12-point halftime advantage.

Augustine Rubit, who led the Jaguars (2-1) with 21 points, scored eight in the first 2:45 of the second half to bring South Alabama within three points, 36-33.

A jumper by Kharon Butcher and a 3-pointer and layup by Miller stretched Tennessee State's lead to 51-39 with 10:52 remaining.

South Alabama got within eight, 51-43, on layups by Mychal Ammons and Rubit, but Tennessee State regained a 12-point lead on a jumper by Michael Green and an M.J. Rhett dunk, with an assist from Miller.

The game was part of a four-team, three-day round-robin portion of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
