Tate, McDonald help N. Kentucky rout D-III Wilmington

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) — Jalen Tate had 17 points, Drew McDonald scored 14 and grabbed nine boards and Northern Kentucky beat Division-III Wilmington College 102-38 on Tuesday night.

Silas Adheke, a redshirt sophomore and juco transfer, had 10 points and 14 rebounds in his debut for Northern Kentucky (1-0). Adrian Nelson and Dantez Walton each added 10 points.

McDonald scored six points and Tate added five as the Norse opened an 11-0 lead about four minutes in. Wilmington went scoreless over a span of nearly six minutes while NKU scored 19 in a row to make it 33-8 with 6:27 left in the first half. The Quakers missed all their 12 field-goal attempts during that run and trailed by 32 at halftime.

Northern Kentucky made just 5 of 16 from 3-point range but shot 58.5 percent from the field. Wilmington made just five first-half field goals and finished shooting 22.4 percent.
