Al Rapier scored 17 points and Stony Brook held off Vermont in the second half for a 65-59 win on Monday night in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

The Seawolves (6-6) led 32-25 at halftime, before Vermont opened the second half on a 12-4 run. The Catamounts (6-9) went up 37-36 after a 3-pointer by Clancy Rugg with 15:45 to play.

Stony Brook answered on a 14-5 run, holding Vermont without a field goal until 2:55 remaining. Bryan Dougher's jump shot capped the Seawolves' run for a 50-42 lead with 6:55 to go.

The Seawolves shot 44 percent from the field (22 of 50), and outscored Vermont 28-14 in the paint.

Dave Coley added 15 points for Stony Brook, and Dougher finished with 14. It was Stony Brook's seventh straight home win.

The Catamounts were led by Luke Apfeld with 18 points and Sandro Carissimo with 16.
