Antonio Bostic had 17 points and Jereal Scott scored five in overtime as Stephen F. Austin held on to defeat Sam Houston State 62-58 Wednesday night.
Desmond Haymon added 12 points and Taylor Smith 11 for the Lumberjacks (13-10, 7-3 Southland), who led by as many as 12 points in the second half.
Nicholls State (7-16, 3-8) got a career-high 17 points from Shane Rillieux, 16 from Dantrell Thomas and 13 from Sam McBeath.
The Lumberjacks hit 7 of 8 free throws in overtime, including two from Smith with 1:54 remaining that put them ahead to stay, 59-58. A potential go-ahead 3-pointer from Thomas with 0.8 seconds left rimmed out, and Stephen F. Austin closed it out with two more free throws.
A layup by Trevon Lewis with 5 seconds left in regulation forced overtime after Scott had given Stephen F. Austin a 51-49 lead with two free throws at the 21-second mark.
