Jereal Scott scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and four other players finished with double figures as Stephen F. Austin routed Howard Payne 114-49 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Scott posted his third career double-double while senior Jordan Glynn joined him with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Eddie Williams had 10 points. Amos Olatayo added 10 and Zac Downing, 11.

Donovan Gardner led Howard Payne with 10 points. Joshua Dada and Brandon Irwin added nine apiece for the Yellow Jackets.

Stephen F. Austin was up by just six points in the first half when Downing hit a 3-pointer at the 6:19 mark to touch off a 17-3 run. The Lumberjacks went in at the half with a 44-21 lead. The game never got any closer as the Lumberjacks shot 63 percent from the field in the second period to steadily widen the margin.
